Serious Mental Illness and Homelessness

This course focuses on recognizing, assessing, and treating serious mental illness (SMI) among adults experiencing homelessness. The course provides an overview of the symptoms of and treatment for major mental illnesses, discusses common co-occurring physical health conditions, and provides best practices for trauma-informed engagement.

The Homeless and Housing Resource Center (HHRC) offers accessible, no-cost training for health and housing professionals in evidence-based practices that contributes to housing stability, recovery, and an end to homelessness. HHRC online courses are free, self-paced, and cover foundational-level information about evidence-based practices in housing and health. Courses include reflective activities that support trainees in identifying how they will put the training into practice. All courses are accredited for continuing education units (CEUs) through the National Association of Social Workers (NASW).
